Solution 1:
- Lift the lid to where the connections cable is.
Solution 2:
- Clean the clear strip on the carriage assy.
Solution 3:
- Check the print catridge inside make sure it`s inserted properly.
Solution 4:
- Verify that something has not stopped the carriage from moving across the paper correctly.
- Verify there is no scraps caught on either side of the carriage assembly.

Where is the clear strip on the carriage assembly?
My Brother MFC 490CW keeps repeating the cleaning function. I have checked for paper jams, reinserted ink cartridges, etc. and still get the error 36 message.
Keep getting error 36 message. There is no paper jam, machine is performing cleaning function repeatedly. I don't know where the carriage assembly/clear strip are. Help!
